Wild Vine

An interesting bangle primarily using gold and some seed pearls for contrast. The vines were done in polished yellow gold and the leaves textured to give that organic feel. The design's still pretty much open to variations as replacing the pearls with some colored stones or even diamonds. Or doubling up the width. But this one's quite nice as it is; undulating naturally on the wrist. Considering its done in solid gold.

Pronged Purples

Here's a suite of rose cut amethysts, intense pink tourmalines, pyrope garnets and diamonds set in yellow gold. A great combination of interesting shapes, subtle brilliance and deep hues.

This was a project based fundamentally on color.  I was tasked to create these based on purples, pinks and dark reds and was able to source these interesting free-form rose cut stones for it. Rose cuts were primarily developed for diamonds in the 1500's and were considered cutting edge at that time as it proved to give a more brilliant stone compared to older style cuts. From the top they resembled rose buds, hence the name. The brilliant cut (which had more fire and sparkle) was developed some time in the 1700's and paved the way for the modern round brilliant stones we're familiar with today. Whereas brilliant stones do create some sharp sparkle, sometimes its great to see some stones with soft, broad flashes too.

Morganic

Here's another modern-organic piece. A bangle commissioned as a flexible work-time to party-time accessory. Multi-colored tourmalines recessed in oxidized and texturized sterling silver. The concept's quite simple, really; embed a fistful of gems in a chunk of precious metal. The final piece actually came out with a little bit more refinement... and a whole lot of sensuality.

Golden Tree Coral

My, my. December already! I hope it's turned/turning out to be a good year for everyone despite recent "interesting" international events these past months.

New in store:

Golden tree coral bracelet base with quite a multitude of colored gems. Pink, purple and green amethysts, turquoise, white and blue topaz and rose quartz set in textured vermeil. I love this.

Weave

Here's a seemingly simple piece that looks not-so-simple when you take a better look. Gold weaving is actually not a new thing in jewelry but the designs associated with it are sort of hackneyed (in my humble opinion). Often literally shaped into forms where you'd expect some weaving done like abanicos (woven fans) or bahay kubos (nipa huts), then adding several other elements...generally, the designs tends to go overboard. Here we wanted to highlight the technique per se of woven gold. Done in the right size and proportion it just resonates subdued elegance. Had we have woven with finer strips I think we might have ended up with a more cloth-like texture.....now that's another idea to look into.

welcome!

What exactly is "Aum" and why did i choose the word "Aum" for my jewelry?

Initially I wanted a simple, one syllable word. Unique and easy to remember. and related to both jewelry and the complete woman.

"Aum" is derived from the latin/scientific word for gold, which is "aurum". "Au" in the table of elements.

"Aum" is also the one word mantra, chanted to destroy negative elements of the mind, body and soul. Therefore achieving balance. And this relates to the woman, who despite the many different roles she plays in her life, still maintains to be successful.

There's a certain warmth you feel when you pronounce the word "aum". Very organic and natural. And I have noticed my designs, at least for the moment, have been evolving this way. (Evolving BUT not being trapped in the design paradigm, thank god.)

Below is a leaf inspired bangle with a soft organic finish. I used diamonds as sort of a "stem". I really like this piece and was one of the first items i have sold at Aum in TriNoma. The same series leaf earrings (which have also been sold) can be seen in the background.

A stark contrast to what I started out designing. Masculine, architectural pieces. As seen below.

But be it organic, modern, architectural, warm, cool, etc... I still find that i always like things clean. And I guess I still have a certain look, as I'm told.

Anyway, let this first post be a preview of the new pieces, old pieces, and maybe random posts on gemological and jewelry matters. if you want anything in particular discussed, send me a message and let's see what we can do.
