Firma’s Triad!

I always believed that good things always come in threes. I love the text invites I get from Chito Vijandre and Ricky Toledo, the dynamic duo behind one of the most chic stores in town! The text message invite is always personal and it always has a quirky anecdote in the end, so having received the invite instantly makes you want to go. FIRMA has always been the home of the best fashion accessories in the land! This is where Bea Valdes started her now super famous brand.

The evening was the unveiling of 3 of FIRMA’s most talented Jewelry designers:  Kristine Dee, Michelline Syjuco and Paul Syjuco. It was so inspiring just to see their work. I am certain that it was a major success!

Pronged Purples

Here's a suite of rose cut amethysts, intense pink tourmalines, pyrope garnets and diamonds set in yellow gold. A great combination of interesting shapes, subtle brilliance and deep hues.

This was a project based fundamentally on color.  I was tasked to create these based on purples, pinks and dark reds and was able to source these interesting free-form rose cut stones for it. Rose cuts were primarily developed for diamonds in the 1500's and were considered cutting edge at that time as it proved to give a more brilliant stone compared to older style cuts. From the top they resembled rose buds, hence the name. The brilliant cut (which had more fire and sparkle) was developed some time in the 1700's and paved the way for the modern round brilliant stones we're familiar with today. Whereas brilliant stones do create some sharp sparkle, sometimes its great to see some stones with soft, broad flashes too.

Deco Diamond Necklace

Here's another project made from a client's unused pieces. We took the diamonds from her various jewels and combined them to make this beautiful art deco inspired necklace.

An important piece it turned out to be. Every gold element was painstakingly handcrafted; from the joints to the bezels, to the placement of the tiniest diamond. The end product clearly drapes so elegantly on the wearer. It moves like....butter...for lack of a better term.

It's a definite keeper.

Metro Magazine November, 2008

Glad to have two items on the Metro Gift Guide this year. Unfortunately there are some errors on the labeling. The orange/mexican fire opal ring is actually my design. It was labeled as Kristine Dee's, who should also have had a piece featured. Her collections are available at Aum Jewels as well.

The other piece is a multi-color beryl rough necklace with pastel colored Indian tourmalines set in rose gold plated silver. It was penned in as an aquamarine rough necklace. I attached a more detailed picture of it below:

Quite nice for those upcoming Christmas events...

statement piece

Here's a matinee length necklace in white agate, carnelian and textured vermeil. The vermeil sections can also be done in gold. But regardless of material, it definitely won't leave you wanting for impact.

Aritos y Otros

Spread on the Philippines Star, July 28

The Baile Foundation and Shangri-La Mall present Aritos y Otros; an art jewelry exhibit celebrating Philippine Heroines and Women Achievers. Show opens on July 31, Thursday, and runs for about a week. Its a group exhibit featuring works by Napoleon Abueva, Arturo Luz, Eduardo Castrillo, Ginny Dizon, Ramon Orlina, Janina Hoschka and myself among others. Above is the spread from yesterday's Philippine Star. And below is the release from the Inquirer.

I will be paying tribute to two women.

First being Rosa Rosal through two necklaces; one shown below:

Second being Anita Magsaysay-Ho through three pieces; one shown below:

I can't wait to see the other works.
