Keshi Pearls and Wirework

Beautiful, unusually shaped keshi pearls on a very wearable gold wire cuff. Keshi (commonly misspelled as "keishi") pearls are actually a byproduct of saltwater pearl cultivation. Whereas cultured pearls have implanted round nuclei keshi pearls do not. Which also explains their uniquely organic shapes. They are made of pure nacre, the pearlescent coating an oyster generates, and usually have gorgeous luster because of this.  A very apt piece for summer.

Luck Favors the Prepared…

...in mind. And in spirit. But it doesn't hurt to wear these bracelets with auspicious charms as well to welcome the Lunar New Year.  Like the stylized yin-yang charm pictured above. With rock crystal quartz and rutilated quartz drops.

And this mystical knot charm in diamond pave in white gold.

And this Chinese coin charm, said to welcome wealth. Studded with white sapphires and set in yellow gold.

All part of the Orientalism collection and available at Aum Jewels TriNoma and Firma Greenbelt 3.

Bespoke Bangle

Was looking through my files and realized I had made quite a few redesign projects last year. Just didn't have time to publish though. But here's one of them. A nice cuff, with most of the stones taken from heirloom pieces. Wide, polished, yet still possesses timelessness. I remember asking my client if she's able to use this along with her other pieces. And she replies that she uses it all the time. Which is any designer's best reward, really.

Orientalism Preview

I tried to interpret the Orientalism theme in a not so literal way. Focusing more on concepts such as auspiciousness and celebratory colors. Also patterns of lucky symbols. It's contemporary, colorful and quite lively, this collection.

A one-day-only special trunk show happens on October 13, 2PM at Chef Jessie at the Rockwell Club. Hope to see you there!

Inset on top are earrings of mandarin garnets, pink tourmalines and diamonds set in yellow gold. Bottom picture shows a bracelet of rose cut rock crystal and rutilated quartz with an endless knot in a pave of white diamonds; also set in gold.

Mobius Rings

Well it does sort of look like a Mobius strip. It just sounds cool, right? As cool as the couple who commissioned these bespoke rings. They had wanted their bands to look just as striking when worn. Because when put together, the rings form an infinity symbol.

Quite simple-looking but was quite the task making it as it had to be precise. The "ber" months are coming and for the Philippines it basically signals wedding season (mostly in December and not in June as most people think). A great time of the year to get married.

Cuff or Bangle?

There are overlaps between the descriptions of a cuff and a bangle. One is open, one isn't. One is thinner, one thicker. One rolls around the wrist, one hugs the arm. It's a little confusing so maybe it's safe to interchange these terms? Anyway, I've been a little delinquent in my posts but here's something special to make up. A white gold cuff (or bangle) studded with marquise and round brilliant diamonds all-over. Some might find this a bit much but I guess the concept of excess will always be relative.

Differences Unite Us

Fortunate enough to be part of this online art jewelry exhibition called "Differences Unite Us" wherein entries from 26 countries were submitted. It's great to see how many other jewelry artists interpreted the theme via materials used and a wide variety of techniques. I submitted photos of past notable pieces as the notched Morganic Bangle and a piece called Anita I made for an exhibit paying tribute to Anita Magsaysay-Ho and her ceramic paintings.

You can view the online exhibit by clicking HERE.

Anita necklace: Ming shard, chalcedony, turquoise, seed pearls and sterling silver. To view in the online exhibit click HERE.

And this is the bespoke bangle I made using dark colored tourmalines interspersed with pink ones set in a notch; embedded in a stark white silver cuff. To view in the online exhibit click HERE.

Handcuffed

IMFbng

Here's a sleek piece inspired by handcuffs. Why handcuffs? I don't know either. But it did turn out great so I'm happy. And I know the new owner's happy with it.

These are done in white gold with varied textures and yellow gold rivets. I also used some princess cut diamonds channel set in between the shanks. Looks quite architectural.

Romanesque

CAhammeredbangle

Given how popular white gold has been for the past decades, it's been quite exciting to be doing more and more yellow gold pieces at present. My latest project was this wide Romanesque hammered cuff with diamond accents; and earrings using the same motif. Yellow gold just has that certain rich warmth to it that you can't get from the other, sometimes antiseptic looking, white metals. Try visualizing these same pieces in white gold. Not quite the same effect, right?
