UNICEF Auction for Action 2013

I donated this piece for this year's UNICEF's Auction for Action. What I named Building Blocks; a layered necklace of buffalo bone and handmade oxidized silver cubes. A mix of industrial and organic.

Preview/viewing of select works to be auctioned runs October 3-26 at the Yuchengco Museum. The eBay auction runs from October 21-26.

Place your bids and save children at stores.ebay.ph/unicefph. The link will go live nearer the auction date so check back soon!

Green is In

Here's a past project of beautiful, vivid bluish-green Colombian emerald cabochons, diamonds and gold.  Very cool and soothing to the eyes. Emerald also happens to be the color of the year as well. Which I don't really pay much attention to as emeralds of this hue will always be timeless.

Asian Dragon, July-August 2013

One of my pieces was included in Asian Dragon's current edition.

Inset are asymmetrical earrings of flat cut pink sapphire rough and diamonds in rose gold. A recent favorite. The drops detach as well so the top parts can be worn as studs.

Turquoise and Spinels

A nice and sizeable set of distinctly colored natural Persian turquoise cabochons and pink spinels in different shades, shapes and sizes. A nice contrast of colors and textures, reflections and refractions, from the sharp brilliance of the spinel facets. Curiously it takes more effort to put together something and make it look like it was just casually strewn together. Thankfully this works quite well, I think.

Keshi Pearls and Wirework

Beautiful, unusually shaped keshi pearls on a very wearable gold wire cuff. Keshi (commonly misspelled as "keishi") pearls are actually a byproduct of saltwater pearl cultivation. Whereas cultured pearls have implanted round nuclei keshi pearls do not. Which also explains their uniquely organic shapes. They are made of pure nacre, the pearlescent coating an oyster generates, and usually have gorgeous luster because of this.  A very apt piece for summer.

Emerald Rough Brooch

A throwback from the past. Well, not that far back. I made this last year for a client and somehow the picture got lost in my files. But great to have found it since emeralds seem to be the stone of the year. And yes those green pebble-like things are emeralds; in rough form. Uncut and unpolished. Set in a yellow gold frame along with faceted multi-colored sapphires to provide a strong contrast of colors and textures. And the end result is quite the interesting piece. And so unusually engaging that people always ask her what she's wearing.

Luck Favors the Prepared…

...in mind. And in spirit. But it doesn't hurt to wear these bracelets with auspicious charms as well to welcome the Lunar New Year.  Like the stylized yin-yang charm pictured above. With rock crystal quartz and rutilated quartz drops.

And this mystical knot charm in diamond pave in white gold.

And this Chinese coin charm, said to welcome wealth. Studded with white sapphires and set in yellow gold.

All part of the Orientalism collection and available at Aum Jewels TriNoma and Firma Greenbelt 3.

Bespoke Bangle

Was looking through my files and realized I had made quite a few redesign projects last year. Just didn't have time to publish though. But here's one of them. A nice cuff, with most of the stones taken from heirloom pieces. Wide, polished, yet still possesses timelessness. I remember asking my client if she's able to use this along with her other pieces. And she replies that she uses it all the time. Which is any designer's best reward, really.
